What is a Fraternity?

A fraternity is a social organization for men at the post-secondary level. Often those who join a fraternity do so because they identify common interests between them and the Fraternity they become affiliated with. To be part of a fraternity is an exceedingly privileging and rewarding experience and ultimately increases one’s self-esteem and allows one to bond with others. Networking opportunities are a major benefit of joining a fraternity. You will be able to build confidence in yourself and know you will have people there for you, as well as people who share the same beliefs and passion that you have.


What is the Kappa Gamma Fraternity?

The Kappa Gamma Fraternity is a secret society that promotes empowerment and leadership. The Brothers of the Kappa Gamma Fraternity gain confidence and obtain leadership abilities that enable them to go out and succeed in all aspirations they pursue. We believe in serving the community and ensuring that the welfare of Gallaudet University and the deaf communiy is always at its best. Because we are men who work towards a common set of goals, we achieve much and, as a result, a great number of our men have attained high positions in society.

What is a Rush?

The Kappa Gamma Fraternity hosts an annual Rush during the fall semester for independent men on Kendall Green. The event provides independent men with an opportunity to get to know the Fraternity and its Brothers better. Benefits of attending Rush include the advantage of learning more about its history, mission, and criteria for the admission.  Also featured at Rush is a keynote speaker, who is often a prominent member of the deaf community that is also a member of the Fraternity. The speaker often shares his experiences as a Kappa Gamma Brother and explains how being a member contributed to his success in life. In short, Rush is intended to be informational and acts as the sole opportunity for independent men to interact with the Fraternity on a formal level.

This event occurs only once a year, usually in the Fall, and more detailed information regarding the rush will be posted as time approaches.


What are the criteria of admission to the Kappa Gamma Fraternity?

The Kappa Gamma Fraternity has four criteria that must be met in order to qualify for admission into the Fraternity.  The criteria that must be met are excellence in four areas: Scholarship, Fellowship, Leadership, and Character. The Fraternity seeks confident, well-rounded men who possess unique tools to succeed in life.


What is the Kappa Gamma Fraternity’s stance on hazing?

The Kappa Gamma Fraternity follows and respects the Gallaudet University Hazing Policy and abides it fully. Fraternal growth should be facilitated through positive encouragement and instruction of intellectual lessons that strengthens the whole soul, not through hazing.
